February 2002

President Bud opened our January meeting with a moment of silent prayer for the passing of John Getchell.  He was a long time member and friend of many.  John was laid to rest on January 12th at Arlington National Cemetery.  He was a highly decorated veteran of World War II.  I also am sad to report the passing of Marvin Guenther on January 20th.  They will both be missed.

Bud introduced our two new members.  They are Jack White and Bill Imperatore.  They were welcomed by all those present.  We now have 71 members.

Business manager Marty Campbell stopped in to our meeting and spoke to the members about some of the things we might look forward to and some of the things we might be helpful with.  He suggested that a display case be made of all the Local 14 memorabilia that has been collected over the years.  Marty also suggested that we have some of our older members attend the apprentice classes.  They could speak to the apprentice classes.  They could speak to the apprentices about the kind of materials they used and how they were applied and how the work has progressed to the way it is done today.  We also could explain how our fringe benefits were started.

Our club historian, Ed Chew, presented us with another one of his outstanding reports.   We thank you Ed and want you to know what a big part of our meetings you are.

Are you a Local 14 retiree?  We invite you to be a member of our club.  Dues are $10.00 a year.  If you live out of state, you can still join.  Just mail your dues to Local 14 Retirees club.

We send out 180 newsletters per month to our member’s whereever they live.  Last year we participated in 14 trips and outings.  We will do so again this year.  So come and say hello to old friends and meet some new ones.

Attention all members:  Election for all offices open and convention delegates will be held on Wednesday, February 20th from 3:00 p.m.  to  8:00 p.m. at the Sprinkler Fitters Hall.  The address is 14002 McNulty Road, Philadelphia.

Remember all retired active members, your vote does count.

We’re waiting for information on the International convention.  The date is August 27th at the Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida.

We wish Pat Eiding success in his new position and we know he will excel as he has with Local 14 for the last twenty-five years.  Thanks for the memories Pat.
