November 2002

President Bud opened our October meeting with a moment of silence for the passing of Roland Westerby.  Roland was Local 14’s oldest retired member.  His book number was 9811 and he was retired for 29 years.  He was 91 years old.

Vegas Report
All those who went on the Las Vegas trip had a wonderful time.  The side trips to Boulder Dam, the Grand Canyon and Laughlin were informative and enjoyable.  There is a rumor that some members went to the Wayne Newton show at the wrong time on the wrong day.  Their tickets were for a week later.  You can’t win them all Larry!  If everyone broke even, how come the plane was so much lighter on the way home.

The A.F.L.C.I.O. president stopped in to say “hello” at our meeting.  Pat was back five weeks after his operation.  Welcome back Pat.  You really look good.

Attention all members
We will be holding nominations of officers for the year 2003 at our November meeting.  Members with their 2002 dues paid are eligible to be nominated and vote for president, financial secretary, recording secretary, two vice presidents, sergeant of arms and travel chairman.

Those members who are nominated will have their names placed on the ballot for the election at our January 21st meeting.  A motion was made that the financial secretary have an assistant to help with the finances at our meetings.

If you are a retired member of Local 14 and not yet a member of our retirees club, we welcome you to join us.  We meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the union hall.  Our dues are $10.00 per year.  Our trips and outings are listed in our news letter and we’re sure there is something of interest for everyone.  Our meetings start at 10:00 A.M. with refreshments.  So come and meet some old friends and make some new ones.  If you are in need of transportation to attend our meetings, just call the union hall and we’ll have someone pick you up.

We had another outstanding report from our club historian, Edgar Chew.  The membership thanks him for the time and effort he takes to bring us these reports.
