September 2003

President Bud opened our meeting with a moment of silence for the safe return of the men and women in the armed forces.

Business Manager, Marty Campbell and administrator of Funds, Mike Burns attended our meeting to explain the financial situation of the health and welfare, and why the reimbursement of our Medicare payment must be discontinued.  They must keep the funds solvent and cut costs wherever possible to continue with the coverage we now have.  You will receive further information from the funds office in the mail.  We thank Marty and Mike for taking the time to explain everything that has to be done to keep our funds solvent.  Upon leaving the meeting, Marty and Mike received an ovation from the entire club and assured that we are with them one hundred percent.

Many thanks to Bill Butler for the great presentation of his collectibles.  He showed glass bottles and jars going back to the eighteen hundreds.  His paintings and wood work items were outstanding.  The high light of his show was an ark made out of Popsicle sticks complete with animals and people.  We thank you Bill, for a job well done.

Nice to see Jim Brey, Fran Carr, Jack Collius and Fred Reighn.  It was like old time. Did you see Fran Carr’s shirt?  If you didn’t he is now top dog in his baseball league.  Good luck, Fran.

Good to see Ray Boyce and Charles Davis overseeing the donut table again.  Did you notice Larry Durham;s moustache from the powered sugar on the jelly donuts?  It looked good on you Larry.

I sad to report the passing of James Paul Miller, long time member of Local 14 and friend to many.  He will be sadly missed.

The following members are on the sick list:  Ralph Carullo, Pal Joey Porter, Bill Rothermel and Dick Reeves.  Ralph and Pay Joey are doing well.  Bill Rothermel had his hand operated on.  He tried to reach for the last pork chop.  He’s home doing well.  The wizard’s had was operated on but he can still order five beers and is home doing well.
